Iran sculptor Tanavoli

TEHRAN, Oct. 29 -- Renowned sculptor Parviz Tanavoli maintains that Iran’s traditional graphics excels the modern type.

It is even possible to make some changes in traditional graphics without damaging its original framework to gain new patterns, he said on Saturday.

Elaborating on his new book “Talisman, Iran’s Traditional Graphics”, which has been published by Bongah Publications of Tehran, the artist added, “No one has talked about Iran’s traditional graphics over the recent years although this branch enjoys rich spiritual potentials. It’s a pity graphics students are not familiar with its know-how.”

Before writing the book, Tanavoli wondered why Iranian graphics has greatly improved, but all have lost sight of the traditional aspect of the art form.

“In spite of the fact that there is nearly a 40-year gap between us and our traditional graphics, there is still hope about the development of the art especially among young students, who are duty-bound to discover the origin of modern graphics.”

He urged the students to study books, talismans, lithography, and all subjects related to the traditional graphics.

“They should bear in mind that traditional graphics is somehow the basis of the modern version.”
